The Edmonds Women's Clinic provides the most up-to-date, state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic services for women's health care. Our physicians have always stayed at the forefront of medical services to make the latest advanced medical and surgical technologies available to our patients to treat the various women's health issues. The following is a list of services available in our clinic. It represents the areas of our expertise well known to the community and most frequently requested, but certainly not comprehensive enough to cover all services that we can provide. Please feel free to contact us for any further information.
Laparoscopic Surgery is also known as “keyhole” surgery.
Through a small incision at the umbilicus and through one or two very small incisions in the abdomen, specialized laparoscopic equipment, such as a telescopic probe and laser, is used to perform complex surgeries on an outpatient day surgery basis. There is no large incision or scar in the abdomen, and the patient can recover and return to work much faster than with the traditional “open” surgery for the same type of problem
- Laparoscopic hysterectomy to remove the uterus with diseases such as fibroid tumor, adenomyosis, endometriosis, bleeding problems, and pain
- Laser laparoscopy and operative laparoscopy for pelvic endometriosis, pelvic pain, adhesions (scar tissue), ovarian tumor or cyst, and fibroid tumor
- Laparoscopic tubal ligation
Hysteroscopic Surgery
By using a hysteroscope, which is a thin telescopic probe placed through the cervix and into the uterine cavity, the surgeon can diagnose and treat pathology in the uterus that can cause abnormal vaginal bleeding and pain. The surgery can actually eliminate menstrual bleeding altogether if clinically indicated, and there is only a minimal post-operative recovery period.
- Hysteroscopic surgery - to remove polyps and fibroids in the uterine cavity to take care of abnormal vaginal bleeding. D&C (dilation and curettage) is usually performed in conjunction with hysteroscopy.
- Endometrial ablation - by cauterizing the endometrium (the lining of the uterus) using electricity or microwave, the menstrual bleeding can be permanently eliminated or quite reduced without removing the uterus, and it does not change a women's hormonal function. Performed as a short outpatient procedure, the patient can return to normal function in a couple days with minimal or no post- operative pain.
Alternative to Hysterectomy
By using new medications, laser laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and endometrial ablation, we can treat a large number of our patients who are suffering from pain and bleeding without having to remove their uterus or other female organs, thus preserving their reproductive and hormonal functions.
Treatment for Endometriosis and Chronic Pelvic Pain
Using advanced medical treatment and advanced laparoscopic and laser surgery, endometriosis and related pelvic pain or infertility problems can be resolved.
Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding
Using medical treatment, hysteroscopy, and endometrial ablation, abnormal uterine bleeding can be resolved without major surgery.
Infertility
Using office based procedures such as ultrasound studies, fertility drugs, hormonal treatment, and intrauterine insemination, couples experiencing difficulty in conceiving can often achieve pregnancy. Additional surgical treatment such as laser laparoscopy for endometriosis and adhesions (scar tissue), tubal repair, microscopic tubal surgeries, and hysteroscopic surgeries for fibroids can be performed to further assist in the conception process if clinically indicated.
Labioplasty and Vaginal Reconstruction
Esthetic and functional correction of vaginal prolapse and/or relaxation can be performed with newer minimally invasive surgical techniques. Labioplasty can correct enlarged or deformed labia to improve a woman’s self image.
Urinary Incontinence and Bladder Problems
Many women suffer from the embarrassing problem of involuntary urination or urinary frequency. We provide advanced testing (urodynamics and cystoscopy) in our office to diagnose the problem, and then we can provide the proper medical treatment or surgery, if necessary, to correct the problem. Incontinence surgery can now be performed using specialized slings (MONARC, TVT) or radiofrequency treatment on an outpatient basis with no incision in the abdomen, and thus with a very short recovery requirement.
